What is Benzac AC Benozyl Peroxide?

Benzac AC can be used to take care of mild to moderate acne. It can be utilized together with other acne treatments. When applied to your skin, Benzac functions by lowering the amount of acne-causing bacteria and by inducing skin to dry and skin. Assess the ingredients on the label if the product has been used by you . The ingredients could have altered. By requiring the incorrect merchandise, you could be harmed.

Benzoyl Peroxide and Acne Cream

  • To best understand the effectiveness of Benzac AC benzoyl peroxide in fighting acne, it helps to understand what exactly benzoyl peroxide is, and how it can help as part of an acne treatment regimen.
  • For starters, benzoyl peroxide is a simple compound of the organic peroxide family. As everyone is familiar with hydrogen peroxide, benzoyl peroxide in acne creams actually performs a similar function. Benzoyl peroxide is used in many practical applications, as a cleanser, a bleaching agent and in a variety of acne face washes, skin exfoliants and acne creams.
  • Benzoyl peroxide is generally added to Benzac AC cream or gel variation, and comes in concentrations of 2.5, 5 and 10 percent. For the treatment of acne, 2.5 percent generally does the trick, but many acne creams will advertise a 10 percent cream as a maximum strength spot treatment.

How Benzoyl Peroxide Fights Acne

In an acne cream, benzoyl peroxide can be beneficial in multiple capacities. When applied to the skin, benzoyl peroxide acne cream creates an oxidized environment–no bacteria can thrive in such an environment. It can also help to cleanse the skin of excess sebum, and balance the complexion as a mild bleaching agent. One of the additional benefits of benzoyl peroxide is the fact that it aids the skin in the shedding process. Because of this, it can help with mild surface scars and balancing out the complexion.

Using Benzoyl Peroxide Acne Cream

  • Most people who implement benzoyl peroxide into their acne treatment do so by using it as a spot treatment. While spot treating pimples with an acne cream can help to reduce the life of a particular zit or problem area, it won’t help in the prevention of future breakouts.
  • Adding Benzac AC benzoyl peroxide to a skin care regimen that is geared toward prevention as well as a treatment will allow an acne cream to truly work to its potential. When used daily, or nightly before bed, a liberal application of benzoyl peroxide will help to fight acne that is present, while fighting some of the variables that cause acne before they can take root.
  • Preparing the skin before applying an acne cream can be easily done through a gentle cleansing and exfoliation, followed with a toner or astringent before adding the final step of the acne cream.
  • One of the few drawbacks in using Benzac AC cream is its harsh nature—the reason why 2.5 percent of a concentration will generally do the trick. To combat dryness, an oil-free moisturizer can be used after applying an acne cream to the skin.

Directions for Using Benzoyl Peroxide

Start with a cleanser, lotion, or gel solutions in a 2.5% strength to allow your skin to become acclimated to the benzoyl peroxide treatments. Follow the instructions provided with your acne regimen, though most commonly, directions would include applying a thin layer of benzoyl peroxide over thoroughly cleansed and dried skin once or twice daily. It is not meant to be used as a spot treatment, but as part of a comprehensive solution.

You should continue to use benzoyl peroxide even after acne clears up. Once you stop, bacterium populations can increase and acne may return. To determine how long you should use your acne treatments, contact your dermatologist.

Possible Side Effects of Benzac AC

While side effects may initially include dryness and irritation, the skin will develop a tolerance after a week or so. Many dermatologists recommend applying the lowest concentration of benzoyl peroxide at first and build up from there. Any dryness or flaking that occurs can also be reduced by using a daily oil-free moisturizing lotion. Since it does tend to dry out the skin, some redness and peeling should be expected.

Avoid getting benzoyl peroxide into your eyes, inside your nose or mouth, or on any areas of broken skin, since it can cause irritation. Flush with plenty of water if this does indeed happen. And, try to avoid anything that might irritate the skin such as abrasive skin products, heavy cosmetics, alcohol, or prolonged exposure to sunlight.

Other Common Uses for Benzoyl Peroxide

The typical concentration of Benzac AC benzoyl peroxide in acne treatment is 2.5% to 10% for both over-the-counter and prescription uses. Higher concentrations are used for hair bleach and teeth whitening. Like most peroxides, benzoyl peroxide is a bleaching agent, so contact with fabrics or hair can cause color changes almost immediately. Use caution when applying it to your skin and avoid contact with hair, clothing, and furnishings.

I love My Benzac gel!! It’s so amazing I have mild acne along my t-zone. If I put it on any spots overnight they are almost gone by the morning! and i use an oil free moisturiser after so have no problems with peeling/dryness.

I used panoxyl aquagel before it was discontinued in 2012 and searched for a product that could deliver the same results. After months of using different products I finally found this product from australia and have been using the 10% version ever since. Makes my skin feel clean and smooth while delivering the same results I got from panoxyl. If your skin can handle benzoyl peroxide then you must check this product out. It comes in strengths of 2.5%, 5% and 10% and can be found on ebay.

When i first started using this, my face was itchy and red and dry. But after a few days, i’ve noticed that it did dry my pimples which was awesome! The only thing i dont like about this is that, it leaves a brown mark after. But so far, this product works

  8. Rated 1 out of 5

Terrible product. My face has been red, itchy and swollen for the past three days because of Benzac. Numerous trips to the doctors have had to be made, Doctor strongly recommends not to buy either. Horrible product.

  9. Rated 1 out of 5

Ive been to the dermatologist twice with acne problem and he prescribed purbac which worked wonderfully well until i completed the course (my skin felt like a baby’s bum), then suddenly terrible breakouts on my face, back and neck leaving scars.

Now i’ve been using benzac AC 5 for almost two weeks now. It’s itchy and irritating however now my skin looks worse than before especially on my forehead, back of my ears and chest. Is this a normal reaction? It just looks like all the black and white heads underneath the skin surfaced all at once, everywhere i touch there’s a bump. What should i do? Any tips on getting a clear skin?

tried proactive for two years its expensive and made no difference, been using benzac for less than a week and it has cleared up all the pimples and all the scabs that i had and nothing new has shown up, and for the same size tube its a third of the price, just make sure that like with all medication you read the information that comes with the tube of gel, i have read some of these reviews saying that they went red and swollen and dry around nose and eyes . . . . . um if you read the info it tells you not to put the cream on sensitive areas around the nose and eyes . . . . .READ and you will be fine, it can feel a little warming but i have had no redness, itching or anything even though i admit i did not obey the rules of the info and i left it on overnight from day dot, hey i’m alive to tell the tale and no complaints 🙂

My secret is to put Benzac OVER the moisturizer. After shower I wait 5 min before putting on Benzac, guess what, by that time skin is already dried out:( so Benzac plus, here we go red and itchy skin:) moisturizer after didn’t save me:)

So my way, after shower I use my moisturizer on NOT completely dried out skin. THEN wait 5-15 min and then apply generously Benzac. That way I completely avoid ALL dryness, redness, itchiness:) Probably it’s not completely absorbed by skin, but it’s OK, cos smth. IS absorbed and NO irritation at all:) Warning: IF irritation occurs just change the moisturizer, some of them react badly with Benzac. I use nuxe prodigieuse light or creme fraishe light- works great. Worked terrible though with nuxe nirvanesque light – got irritation:)

I was using a product for my acne. It wasn’t very bad on my face but it was insane on my back and under my neck. I could hide it with some clothes, but I was running out of them, and of course as it was summer so my friends and I wanted to swim, but I was too ashamed to wear a bikini. I used a product recommended by loads of people for about two months but it just got worse! Everything looked red and bumpy. I bought benzac, and I’ve only used it for a week, I can barely see any marks or pimples on my skin! I feel so much more confident. I’d defenitely recommend it to any teenager! I’m fifteen , so anyone near my age is welcome to try it.

I’ve used the Benzac AC 5% for a little less than 11 weeks now and from the first day I’ve used it compared to now, it truly is amazing. Now I only gave it a 4.5 rating because it didn’t really “clear” everything up. I’d say I’m about 90%-95% clear but I’ve moved on to the 10% variant to try my luck, hopefully it works. I really love this product and I’d recommend it to anybody.

I’ve been using the benzoyl peroxide 5% since i cant seem to find the 2.5% in our local pharmacy.

Been waiting for my products but i can’t wait to start so i’ve been using this and somehow it lessened the number of growth of my acne. I think it would have been better if i used the Benzac 2.5% and maybe my face would be less red, dry and flaky

  16. Rated 5 out of 5

i have been using 5% benzoyl peroxide face cream. and the Galderma gel based benzoyl peroxide was much lighter on my skin. i have just started using it, so i will post another review, since no one else has. its the only product i could get my hands on here in south africa dischem stores. otherwise, there was a 5% benzoyl peroxide oxy cream. and that smelled really bad

  17. Rated 5 out of 5

  19. Rated 5 out of 5

It works! Cleared up my adult acne. I tried a lot of treatments before benzac and nothing worked as well. Drinking a lot of water also helps a lot. Definetely recommend it before trying accutane. Accutane helped me for a while but it came back :(, when I tried a second round of accutane my body did not react as well.

  20. Rated 4 out of 5

i would recomend this for your first time trying it. in 2-3 months my skin was completly clear. I kept using benzac and now my skin is back to acne poping up so once your skin has reached perfect stop using it!

  21. Rated 5 out of 5

This is hands down the best acne medicine I have ever used. I highly recommend it.

  22. Rated 4 out of 5

It is the best product I have ever used and I struggled with ‘adult acne’ from the age of 26 to 36 until I discovered Benzac

    Well priced and easily accessible.

  23. Rated 3 out of 5

Slightly drying and a little pricey.

But well worth the money as it really helps. Soon I am going to move up to the 10% as the rate of improvement is slowing down.

I would really recommend this product, as it is a great cream to use after cleansing at night, when the skin rejuvinates itself. (:

  24. Rated 2 out of 5

Been using it for a few months, noticed slight change but nothing major.

  25. Rated 5 out of 5

i easily get breakouts because of my oily skin. i tend to get pimples like once a week and its annoying because once one is nearly clearing up,another one takes over. so it’s a non-stop cycle thing.

ive been using benzac, although im not sure which brand cause i get it from my derm. and ive been using it ever since ! although it might be a bit drying, it sure does help dry up the acne faster. especially cystic ones, which i get once in a while. so yes, really just try this stuff, it works i tell you ! good luck ! 😀
